Google is picking a fight with us and suspending ad accounts over their own platform errors.
Having your ad accounts get denied, disapproved, or suspended is every agency’s worst nightmare and it’s happening to us right now.
In this episode, we go over what’s going on with Google Ads and how we’re fighting back. We also stress the importance of not having all of your eggs in one basket. Thankfully doing so has kept us safe from the issue we’re dealing with Google on for the most part.
in the middle of the episode, Cody talks about the article that he wrote on his website regarding this whole situation in order to get Google’s attention. You can read that here:
“Google Suspended Our Google Ads Accounts Over Their Mistake”

If there’s anything we’ve learned about owning a digital agency, it’s that your online security is #1. After facing a Facebook hack with the hacker spending $30,000 on our ads account in a matter of 2 days, we’ve partnered up with Aura to monitor our online presence and secure our accounts.

This was such a good episode! Google’s verification processes and agency tools for smaller agencies is absolutely terrible. In 2023, you could feel the shift to AI review and the lack of personnel available for support. And the response to failing verification is always “can’t provide specific information”. In some cases, we’ve even gotten a Platinum Product Expert involved, with no better results. Creating additional payment profiles you have to contact support, which is annoying at best to deal with. Ron Swanson in Home Depot is such a good analogy.
Unless you are running LSA ads you might not have come across this, but after advertiser verification, advanced verification is even worse. Garage Door and Locksmiths need to complete it even for regular search ads to lift a limitation based on the sensitive local service policy.
Good episode. Very cathartic to hear we’re not the only ones having issues with Google support.
ps. We started including Advertiser Verification as part of client onboarding in 2023 after Google started pushing it. I could be wrong, but I thought I read it would be required on all ad accounts going forward.
Yeah I think eventually that’s where they’re headed with forcing verification.
Wait until you hear the 3/8 episode that’s coming out. We found someone at Google that was helpful and actually told us that the number one source of their account suspensions right now is Advertiser Verification. They even gave us basically a way out without dealing with suspension support.
