**Cold Open (Cody asks Jake what his take is on wash rags…)**
**Skip the Cold Open at 7:48**
Jake was asked by a listener what goals we aim to achieve in our agency on a recurring basis.
Frankly, there aren’t a lot of goals we have. The more goals you have as a small agency the more analysis paralysis you experience and it keeps your eyes off of the true intentions of growing your agency.
Cody also gives his take on goals in general and how he hates them. He also hates camping — did you know that?

Thanks for the shout out! Hearing SMART goals aren’t useful was a hot take. You guys have some solid points for long term goals and building systems.
Coincidently, this episode was super timely for me as the agency is about to go into our annual planning session in a few weeks. We usually break out goals into operations, financials, and growth. Our original 2022 goals (planned in October 2021) were heavy on growth, but quickly had to pivot our focus to operations after seeing too quick growth early in the year.
As always, you guys are great!
PS. Cody, congrats on the house. That’s super exciting!
Haha well, maybe we’re wrong about goal setting ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
We’re just happy where we’re at with goals and our size. It could still be different for you. I wish I would have said something to that effect in the episode.
You could also say that in early 2021 we had heavy growth goals but in 2022 we shifted heavily to operations as we could barely sustain the growth gained in 2021. It was just never verbalized internally that we were shifting goals. The main goal to me was still revenue/profit growth but the only way to get there was to focus on processes and documentation to prevent stagnation in 2023 and beyond.
