Closing sales for a new coach or agency owner is hard, especially if you don’t quite have a solid portfolio or a few references you can send prospects to.
Every agency owner has to deal with this when they start their business. We were able to overcome that hurdle and now sales and closing clients come naturally to us.
When we first started, we had to overcome a lot of objections — now, it’s easy… we just don’t. But we had to build our portfolio in creative ways in order to get to that point.
We’ll go over a few tricks with tips we used when we first booked appointments and sales calls in our first year of business that got us the sale, including things like:
- Doing initial work cheaper or for free to build your portfolio
- Building consultative relationships that turn into paying customers
- Offering value that no one else with other clients can
- And more

This was very informative! I have always wanted to build a local marketing agency in Kennesaw GA, however, I am self-conscious because of my English. Since I was adopted, English is my second language, I am very technical and analytical. You guys are an inspiration to me at an older age! I hope one day I can walk in your shoes while being able to buy a house for my dad! Thank you so much for everything!
My promise to you is that I will listen to all your podcasts to the end!~
We love to hear that! We never set out to be inspiring — just informative. But comments like yours inspire us to keep producing great content!
Schmoozers lose and data nerds win in the long run. And anyone worth doing business with should see you working in a second language as commendable, not something to look down on.
I hope you get the house for your dad too.
ありがとうございます!がんばってね!
Enjoying the show, guys. Very informative stuff. Some feedback.
1. There are usually tons of spiders & gnats at the tops of high-rise buildings.
2. It sounds like Cody is speaking through a long pvc tube. I’d suggest upgrading his mic.
Keep up the good work
Thank you, Barry!
1. Good to know! We must have had some excellent pest control services!
2. Haha, keep listening! Cody eventually upgrades to a Shure MV7 mic just like me. Of course… sometimes he records episodes while at the cabin…
Hey Barry, thanks for taking the time to comment.
1. This is the exact sort of feedback I want to know.
2. I can’t remember how much longer but soon after this Jake got me to upgrade so I’ll stop sounding like a mashed potato.
