If you chase relationships in your agency or consultancy, the money will follow. But if you chase money first, you risk destroying current and future relationships which becomes self-defeating in the pursuit of money.
We give specific examples of when we cared more about preserving a relationship than adding a new client or taking a business’ money that has had positive effects on our business. That includes nurturing and maintaining relationships over money in the following areas:
- Clients
- Prospects
- Industry Partners
- Employees
- Business Partners
- Vendors & Publications

As we become more comfortable with our podcast layout, we make more jokes. Some jokes may be offensive to some, but we do want to iterate that these are simply jokes (specifically regarding the joke around 34m 30s mark).
Good stuff, guys. I even enjoy the banter. Feels like I’m listening in on a discussion while ppl are at lunch lol
Do you guys have an episode that talks about marketing industry groups, networking, etc? Heard you guys talk about some in passing, but a list of groups would be great.
Thanks,
Barry
Hey Barry,
Thanks for the feedback! I hope that makes it all easier to listen to.
Episode 36 is probably the closest to what you’re looking for — although, we don’t call out specific groups to “network” in.
This would be a good topic for us to cover in the near future. We also have an episode coming out that cautions people to stay away from paid “masterminds”.
But here are a few groups that I’m in on Facebook:
Most of the groups I’m in are specifically related to SEO since that’s primarily what we offer. It’s also worth it to note that most agency groups are junk. They’re full of people that don’t know what they’re talking about, fake gurus, or people who regurgitate fake guru information. So just be mindful and take whatever anyone says with a grain of salt. 9 times out of 10, someone is promoting something in those groups.
Personally, I find it pretty useless to network with other marketers. I only like to network with people in my niche (landscaping) so I’m in a lot of groups related to my niche and not marketing. I’m in a lot of marketing groups on Facebook because we have this podcast and it’s a way to get it out there.
I hope this helps!
